Bemidji Curling Club Board Minutes - December 2007

Bemidji Curling Club
Board of Directors Meeting
December 11, 2007

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 8:05 p.m. by President Keith Hunt.

Present: Bob Fenson, Dave Chandler, Keith Hunt, Mary Israelson , Chase Jackson, Dave Lundberg, Aaron Stodgell, Doug Underthun, Randy Westhoff

Absent: Chase Schmitt

Guests: Mary Rollheiser

Approve Prior Minutes: A motion to approve minutes was made by Chase Jackson, seconded by Dave Chandler. The motion carried.

Presentations by Guests USWCA Membership: Mary Rollheiser has been the club’s USWCA representative for several years. The club has traditionally paid USWCA dues of $10 plus $5 for each female member of the club. This is in addition to USCA dues we pay for all members. Although approved by the board, last year’s USWCA dues were never paid. Membership benefits include participation in events sponsored by the USWCA and funds for junior programs. None of our members have participated in any of these events in the last few years. Mary Israelson moved, seconded by Randy Westhoff, that the club renew its membership this year. The motion was defeated.

Finance: Dave Lundberg presented a financial report dated October 31, 2007 and answered several questions. All but about ten ice ads have been paid for. At this point we have about 275 membership applications, with all but twenty paid. We should reach last year’s membership total of 325. Discussion of getting member information into the accounting/billing software (Peachtree) used by Wayne Ward followed. Dave Lundberg will talk to Wayne about this.

Old Business:

  • Webpage: Information is not getting onto the web site very quickly. Discussion of the process for getting information to Steve Fogelson followed.
  • GM Contract: Bob Fenson has been issued a new contract.
  • Freezer Replacement: A new freezer for the kitchen will cost $400 including delivery and removal of the old unit. Dave Chandler moved, seconded by Mary Israelson, to approve purchase. The motion carried.

Committee Reports

  • Bar:Keith Hunt reported that the bar took in a little over $3000 at the Eagles Bonspiel.
  • Juniors: Randy Westhoff reported that three team with Bemidji juniors will be participating in the state Playdowns this year.
  • Senior Nationals: No report.

General Manager’s Report:

  • The Northern Inn charged the Ojibwe Forest Rally organizers $300 a day for the use of their facility. Bob recommended we charge them $1000 for three days and a refundable $1000 cleaning/damage deposit for use of the club.
  • The club’s liquor liability insurance was not renewed. Bob is looking for a new carrier. The state also provides this type of insurance but the limits of liability are lower. These can be increased if our city lease requires a higher liability limit.
  • Bob distributed an updated bonspiel schedule.
  • The Paul Bunyan Hockey Tournament is coming up December 30. The bar will be made available 12-4 p.m. Sunday for parents and a spaghetti lunch will be served.
  • Our worker’s compensation policy came through at $2000, less than last year.
  • The locker room is nearly complete. Tom Steele did a terrific job building benches for the locker room.
  • The club will reimburse Bob for cell phone expenses incurred while he was organizing the Mixed Doubles Championship.

Next Meeting and Adjournment: The next meeting will be Tuesday, January 8 at 8:00 p.m.. The meeting adjourned at 10:00.

Respectfully submitted,

Randy Westhoff
