March 27, 2005
(PAISLEY, Scotland) – USA skip Cassie Johnson received the Frances Brodie Award for sportsmanship shortly after her team received the silver medals following a loss to Sweden in the Women's World Curling Championship final today.
The Frances Brodie award is presented to the player deemed to have displayed the best sportsmanship throughout the championship, as voted on by all of the players competing. Johnson (Bemidji, Minn.) led her team to a 12-1 record and the silver medal in its first-ever appearance in this championship.
"I was really surprised," said Johnson, who received the award from Frances Brodie herself. "This means a lot to me, especially since she was here to present it."
"There's no one more deserving than Cassie," said her coach, Neil Doese (Menomonee Falls, Wis.).
