Johnson named CSTV College Athlete of the Week
Most Americans know very little about the sport at which Cassie Johnson excels.
By all accounts, people were curling long before a basket was ever scored or a homerun ever hit. In fact, Europeans were throwing stones across sheets of ice as early as the 1500's, and when they came to America, they brought their rocks with them. In places like Bemidji, Minnesota, the sport has thrived and produced players like Johnson, who will compete for the U.S. in next year's Olympic games in Turin, Italy.
On March 27th, Johnson and her teammates won the Silver Medal at the World Championships in Paisley, Scotland, losing to Sweden in the finals. It's not the first trophy for the Bemidji native, who was a two-time Junior National Champion, and won the Wisconsin and Minnesota State Women's Championships in 2003 and 2004 respectively.
The design technology major hopes to graduate in December and pursue a career in either her major or mathematics.
