Bemidji sent four junior rinks to Duluth, MN this last weekend (January 1 - 3, 1999) to compete in the Minnesota State Junior Championships. They kept up the time honored Bemidji tradition and brought 2 firsts and a second back to Bemidji.
The Cassie Johnson rink repeated as the Ladies Junior Champions with a 4 win, no loss record. Cassie's rink consisted of Jamie Johnson - Vice Skip, Tina Kelly - 2nd and Kristy Matson - Lead. Cassie's rink is coached by Liz Johnson.
Jeremy Fogelson's rink consisting of Jeremy as Skip, Randy Baird - Vice Skip, Chase Jackson - 2nd, and Cody Stevens - Lead also repeated as the Mens Junior Champions with a 7 win and no loss record. Scott Baird coaches the Fogelson rink.
The Hope Schmitt rink placed 2nd in the championship, with their only lose coming in a hard fought extra end battle with their home town rivals - the Cassie Johnson rink. Hope's team is rounded out with Niki Baird - Vice Skip, Katie Schmidt - 2nd, and Teresa Bahr - Lead. Scott Baird also coaches this rink.
All three of these rinks will compete in the United States Junior National Championships at Waupaca, WI from January 30th thru February 6th, 1999.
The Jon Chandler Rink also competed this past weekend improving on their last year's record placing 3rd in Side B of the Men's playoffs with two wins. They were just a few shots away from making the semi-finals. We know we will see more of them in years to come. The rest of their rink consisted of Joe Polo - Vice Skip, Travis Jackson - 2nd, and Ben Hunt - Lead. Bob Fenson coachs the Chandler rink.
