Schmitt rink repeats as USCA Juniors Champions
The Hope Schmitt rink has repeated as the 1999 United States Curling Association Junior Ladies Champions. They went through the round robin play with a 7-2 record to gain the number 2 seed into the semifinals. They then beat Massachusetts in the semis and Washington in the finals.
The Schmitt rink consists of Hope Schmitt : Skip, Nikki Baird : Vice Skip, Katie Schmitt : 2nd, Teresa Bahr : Lead. They are coached by Scott Baird. They will now represent the US in the World Junior Curling Championships in Ostersund Sweden from March 20th through the 28th.
The Jeremy Fogelson rink also had a fine showing. They went through the round robin play with a 7-2 record to gain the third seed into the semis. They then beat Wisconsin II in the semis, but fell to the defending champs from Nebraska to finish 2nd in the championships.
The Fogelson rink consists of Jeremy Fogelson : Skip, Randy Baird : Vice Skip, Chase Jackson : 2nd, Cody Stevens : Lead. They are coached Scott Baird.
The Cassie Johnson rink went through round robin play with a perfect record of 9-0 to gain the number one seed into the semis. They then lost a close battle with the rink from Washington. At the evening awards banquet though, Cassie's rink won the Curtis (Sportsmanship) Award. Quite an honor.
